We are an agribusiness located in Southern Belize, dedicated to cultivating the finest coconuts and soursop in the country, adhering to the highest quality standards to provide our clients with top-quality products.
With an extensive landholding that spans over 3,000 acres, we take great pride in our diverse array of crops. Our focus, however, centers on two exceptional coconut variations: the Brazil Green Dwarf (BGD) and the Chactemal Coconut Hybrid. But our passion doesn’t stop at coconuts. We are also deeply invested in the cultivation of Salvadorian soursop, a tropical fruit that’s as celebrated for its extraordinary flavor as it is for its numerous health benefits.
Our History
Mr. Jose Lorenzo Obregon, the primary shareholder of the Obregon Coconut Company, has harbored a keen interest in conducting business in Belize since the early 1970s. This passion was ignited during his employment at Chiquita Bananas, where he became aware of promising opportunities in the region.
In 2010, his excitement peaked when an opportunity emerged involving available farmlands managed by Fyffes, though regrettably, that potential sale did not come to fruition. However, in 2018, another opportunity presented itself when the DPG farms, encompassing approximately 5,000 acres that were put up for sale. This time, the sale successfully transpired, marking a significant milestone for Mr. Obregon and the Obregon Coconut Company.
Originally, Mr. Obregon intended to follow in DPG’s footsteps by continuing to cultivate oranges on the property. However, following discussions with local farmers, he was persuaded to redirect his investments towards coconut farming. This shift in focus was underpinned by compelling data that demonstrated superior returns in the coconut industry compared to orange cultivation.
Mr. Obregon’s grand vision for the Obregon Coconut Company is to establish it as the largest coconut farm in Belize. He aspires to not only produce top-quality coconuts but also create employment opportunities for hundreds of Belizeans. His commitment to these objectives reflects his dedication to contributing positively to the Belizean agricultural landscape and local communities.
